Guest Post on Cognitive Processing of Images vs Words

I’ve been a longtime fan of Jordie van Rijn; his EmailMonday site has been invaluable in learning more about the email marketing world. I’m not sure if there aren’t actually 4-5 people masquerading under one name, given the sheer output, but they seem like a really nice guy.

I had a somewhat-hazy notion about digging in some real science regarding how our brain handles images versus text. There’s plenty of hyperbole, and way too many amazing marketing quotes…but it’s difficult as heck to find some hardcore research.

With a substantial amount of help from Jordie, here’s my guest blog post on the topic.

Excerpt:

You might accept the oft-used statement that people process visuals 60,000x faster than words. This article will give you a more-accurate ratio for image vs text processing, and outline the science and assumptions backing the conclusions.
