Guest Post: "AMP for Email: Mustangs, Barbed Wire & Aggregation" (OnlyInfluencers.com)

Email is the most widely used personal communication channel on the globe, with over 3.8 billion people sending more than 280 billion messages each day. The technical standards that enable this massive message exchange are not ‘owned’ by anyone; by and large, they remain open Internet standards.

This post argues that email is one of the last “free-range” Internet standards in common use — the mustang, if you will, eyeing the encroaching barbed wire. While that’s a fanciful image, I think the market structure of email in contrast with other Internet standards bears it out.
